Recipe Ingredients
- Pasta – You’ll need 8-ounces of pasta for this recipe. I love using ditalini pasta. Make sure to cook it al dente.
- Avocado Oil – You’ll need avocado oil for this recipe. Avocado oil has a high smoke point and neutral flavor.
- Sausage – You’ll need mild Italian ground sausage for this recipe. Option to use hot sausage if you prefer a little spice.
- Aromatics – You’ll need diced onion, and minced fresh garlic for this recipe.
- Tomato Paste – Tomato paste adds a depth of flavor to the sauce. Allow the paste to caramelize a bit in the pan before deglazing it.
- Seasoning – Season with kosher salt and cracked black pepper to taste.
- Low Sodium Chicken Broth – Low sodium chicken broth help prevent the sauce from getting too salty.
- Heavy Cream – This thickens the sauce making it silky and creamy. Option to use half and half.
- Parmesan Cheese – This acts as a binder in the sauce. Once it’s melted and well combined, the sauce is ready to go.
- Red Pepper Flakes – Optional. Add a pinch if you like a little spice.
How to Make Creamy Marry Me Ditalini Sausage Pasta
Make the Pasta
- Boil a pot of water, season it with kosher salt and cook the ditalini pasta according to the package. Al dente is best. Drain off the excess water using a colander, drizzle with avocado oil and set the pasta aside.
Make the Sauce
- Heat a sauté pan over medium high heat. Add the avocado oil. Once the oil is hot, add the mild Italian ground sausage. Sauté the sausage until it’s golden brown, then add the diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent. These handy silicon spatulas are great for safely mixing your ingredients without damaging your pans.
- Next, add the tomato paste and allow it to lightly caramelize in the pan for 2-3 minutes. Season everything with a pinch of kosher salt and a few turns cracked black pepper.
- Next, deglaze the pan with low sodium chicken broth. Once the broth reduces by half, reduce the heat to medium and add the heavy cream. Stir well. Next, add the grated parmesan cheese. Once the cheese is melted, add the cooked pasta. Toss until everything is well coated in the sauce. Garnish with red pepper flakes and enjoy!
- If the sauce gets too thick, add a touch of broth to help thin it back out.
Storage for Creamy Marry Me Ditalini Sausage Pasta
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for three to four days. When reheating add a touch of broth to the bottom of a nonstick skillet to help reconstitute the sauce. Heat until warmed through. Option to use the microwave too. You’ll also want to add a touch of broth to the bowl before reheating.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! Any pasta shape will work, but shorter cuts like penne, bowtie or macaroni are best.
Avocado oil has a high smoke point and does not impart flavor on the food like olive oil can.
Yes! You can use half and half or milk. But this will drastically change the texture of the sauce. I suggest enjoying the recipe as is. A little heavy cream won’t hurt anybody.

I have already made this countless times, so good! Our go-to easy weeknight comfort meal.
I am so glad you enjoyed! Thank you for the review!
Easy and delicious recipe. Made some alterations as I didn’t have some of the ingredients. Also, used leftover sausages I had and just browned them up in the pan before adding the onion and garlic (also added the red chili pepper at this point for a bit of a kick). Used coconut milk instead of cream and Kraft parmesan cheese. Had to add a bit of corn starch to thicken up the sauce, but turned out great, nice flavours. Good comfort dish. Thanks for the recipe!
So glad you enjoyed!
Made this tonight for dinner and it was delicious and easy to make. I love the addition of crushed red pepper flakes for that kick of spice to break up the richness from the cream.
So glad you enjoyed!
I usually make this a one pot meal. I just put the pasta in after sausaage is cooked and just put enough broth to cover pasta and cook till pasta is done. So much easier.
This was delicious! I ended up making it with ground beef and it was delicious, the next time I’ll do sausage to see what I like better. I made it for my picky 15 month old and he devoured it! My husband and I loved it also, thank you so much!!
So glad you enjoyed it!

Super easy and tasty! I used breakfast sausage (all I had) and added spices per another blogger’s recipe to make it “Italian” sausage. Will be making again. This one is definitely a keeper.

Definitely making this again! Soooo yummy and fairly simple. I doubled the sausage and used half spicy / half mild, added a little more cheese, and used a different pasta shape! All the same, it was fantastic.
so happy to hear that!! Thank you for the review!
This looks and tastes amazing! If I wanted to double the serving size.. would I just increase every ingredient by another half? So instead of 8oz pasta it would 16oz and so forth for the rest?
Thank YOU!!!
yes, exactly!
I just finished making this. It was so yummy! I added ground beef with the sausage because I needed to use it 🙂 I will definitely make this again. Thank you so much for the great, easy recipe!
Made to rave reviews from my family tonight! Super easy and delicious! I had a zucchini that was needing to get added, so I added it to the pot with the onions and garlic.
