1canbutter beans, 15.5 ounce can, rinsed and drained
1 canvegetarian baked beans, 16 ounce can Bush's vegetarian baked beans, with sauce
¾cupketchup, Heinz brand
¼cuplight brown sugar, packed
1.5teaspoonsapple cider vinegar
1teaspoondry mustard powder
½tablespoonWorcestershire sauce
¼-½cupchicken broth, vegetable broth works too
¼teaspoon salt
¼-½teaspoon black pepper , I like using freshly cracked black pepper
Equipment
1 Dutch oven with lid
1 colander
Instructions
Gently spray a large sauté pan with cooking spray. Add the diced sweet onion. Let the onions sweat until they become translucent.
Then, add the drained and rinsed kidney beans, butter beans, and 1 can of the baked beans (with sauce). Next, add the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, mustard powder, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and chicken broth. Stir until well combined.
Let everything simmer over low heat on the stovetop for 30-40 minutes or until the beans have softened and the sauce has thickened up. If the sauce gets too tight, add more broth.
Option to add cooked protein of choice. Grilled chicken sausages, browned ground beef, or crispy bacon all work well. Serve warm from the stovetop or from a baking dish.
