Cinnamon Crunch French Toast

Ingredients

  • 12-14 slices Italian bread, stale, cut into 3/4 -1 inch thick slices.
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 2-3 large eggs, depending on size
  • 1 cup 2% milk, or whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Cinnamon Sugar Dusting

  • ¼ cup cane sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Equipment

Instructions 

  • Combine the cane sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Set it aside.
  • In a separate large mixing bowl, combine the eggs, milk, light brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Whisk until well combined.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the butter and make sure the entire pan is coated.
  • Quickly dip one piece of the stale bread into the egg mixture. Make sure both sides are coated, and immediately add it to the hot buttered pan.
  • Sear until the toast is golden brown on both sides. About 1-2 minutes per side.
  • Repeat for all the toast.
  • Once all the toast is golden brown, lightly dust it with the cinnamon sugar mixture. A little goes a long way.
  • Serve with your favorite toppings and enjoy.
