How to Tell if a Watermelon is Ripe (expert tips)

  1. Look for a field spot. Or a pale-yellow spot on the watermelon. This means the watermelon rested in the field while growing and ripening. If this spot is green it is not ready.
  2. Feel the weight. I ripe melon will feel heavier as it is filled with juices.
  3. Give it a knock! Knock on the watermelon like you would a door. If it sounds hollow it is ready!
