Recipe Ingredients
- Ricotta Cheese – This recipe calls for whole milk ricotta cheese. I did not test lower fat versions.
- Cream Cheese – Whipped cream cheese works perfectly in this recipe. It melts well and is easy to mix.
- Parmesan Cheese – The grated Parmesan cheese adds some saltiness and depth of flavor to the dip.
- Mozzarella Cheese – This recipe calls for one cup of shredded mozzarella cheese. Half is added to the dip and the other half is sprinkled over the pizza sauce.
- Seasoning – Season the dip with Italian seasoning, a pinch of kosher salt and few turns of cracked black pepper. Option to add red pepper flakes if you like it spicy.
- Pizza Sauce – For this recipe, I used Delallo Foods jarred pizza sauce. It adds that classic pizza flavor that we all love. Option to use their marinara sauce or spicy arrabbiata sauce if you like some heat.
- Toppings – I used julienned pepperoni, thin shaved onion, sliced black olives and thin shaved green peppers for this recipe.
Variations
Add toppings. You can add whatever toppings you enjoy most. Some ideas include, diced tomatoes, green bell pepper,
Swap the protein. Instead of pepperoni, try adding cooked ground Italian sausage or sliced ham instead. Make sure to cook the Italian sausage in a pan before adding it to the dip!
Expert Tips
- Let the dip rest for a few minutes before enjoying. This allows the cheese to set up a touch.
- If using onion or green bell pepper as a topping, slice it thin so it has time to soften in the oven. If you dice these vegetables they might not have enough time to soften in the oven. So slicing them thin works well.
- Serve with crackers, garlic bread, garlic knots or sliced vegetables.
- For and extra crispy top, broil for 1-2 minutes.
How to Make
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Lightly spray an 8×8 ceramic baking dish with avocado oil spray.
Step 2: Add whole milk ricotta cheese, whipped cream cheese, grated parmesan cheese, half of the shredded mozzarella cheese, Italian seasoning, pinch kosher salt, and a few turns of cracked black pepper in a mixing bowl.
Step 3: Mix until well combined.
Step 4: Add to the prepared baking dish. Spread dip evenly.
Step 5: Top with a layer of pizza sauce.
Step 7: Followed by the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese.
Step 8: Add desired toppings and bake for 20-25 minutes.
How to Store
Store any leftover dip in an airtight container, covered in the refrigerator for three days. Reheat in the microwave until the cheese is melted and the sauce is warmed through.
