Baked Chicken Drumsticks
These baked chicken drumsticks are the perfect weeknight meal. Simply season, drizzle with olive oil and bake. Serve these baked drumsticks with a side of rice or pasta for a delicious and easy dinner.
Ingredients Needed for Baked Chicken Drumsticks
Chicken – For this recipe, I used bone-in, skin-on drumsticks. You’ll need 6-8 drumsticks depending on size.
Seasoning – Season the chicken with salt, pepper, paprika, onion powder and garlic powder.
Olive Oil – Drizzle the seasoned chicken with olive oil and bake.
Pro Tips for Baked Chicken Drumsticks
You want the oven to be 400 degrees. Higher temperatures will render the fat, soften the tendons and make the skin crispy. Lower temperatures will still offer juicy chicken but not as crispy.
Rest the meat at room temp for 15 minutes before seasoning and baking. Be sure to pat the drumstick with a paper towel before seasoning. This will enhance the crispiness of the skin.
You’ll want the internal temperature to reach 170 degrees for bone-in drumsticks. The juices should run clear, and the meat should be tender. This ensures proper doneness.
How to Make Baked Chicken Drumsticks
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Spray a baking dish or rimmed sheet tray with non-stick cooking spray. I like to use a deeper dish to prevent any oil splatter from smoking.
Pat the chicken dry with a paper towel. Season it with salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder and paprika. Rub the seasoning on all sides.
Drizzle with olive oil and bake for 35-40 minutes for smaller drumsticks, and 40-45 minutes for larger ones. Or, until the internal temperature reaches 170 degrees. Be sure to turn them halfway through cooking. If they begin to get too brown simply cover with foil and finish baking. Remove from the oven and enjoy.
Storage
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for three to four days. Reheat in the microwave.
