Alphabet Soup
This alphabet soup recipe is perfect when you want an easy and delicious soup recipe in a hurry. Made from a few simple ingredients, this soup is guaranteed to be a family favorite. Enjoy it alongside a grilled cheese or with a piece of crusty bread. No matter what, you’re going to love this recipe.
Growing up my grandma always made us alphabet soup. She would gently fry the pasta in a pan until it was slightly golden brown before adding it to the broth. She always said frying it first added more flavor to the soup, and she wasn’t wrong. You can also boil the pasta separately and add the cooked pasta to the broth, but I highly suggest trying it this way first.
Ingredients Needed Alphabet Soup
Alphabet Shaped Pasta – La Moderna alphabet pasta is the best for this soup. You will need one 7-ounce package for this recipe.
Olive Oil – You will need good olive oil for this recipe. I like using Delallo Foods olive oil.
Onion – You will need one sweet onion diced small for this recipe.
Garlic – This recipe calls for 2 teaspoons garlic, about 2 cloves minced of thinly sliced.
Bone Broth – For this recipe, I used Smart Chicken’s classic chicken bone broth. It adds so much flavor to this recipe. You will need 4 cups which equates to about two cartons.
Whole Tomatoes – For this recipe, you’ll need 14.5-ounces of whole peeled tomatoes.
Salt / Pepper – Season the soup with salt and black pepper. Option to add a few red pepper flakes if you like it spicy.
How to Make Alphabet Soup

Once heated through, add everything to a food processor or blender and buzz until smooth, no lumps.
Add the puree back into the Dutch oven.
Add the bone broth and water. Simmer over medium heat stirring occasionally.
Next, grab a non-stick skillet and add one tablespoon olive oil over medium heat.
Add the package of dry alphabet pasta to the hot oil and sauté it for 2-3 minutes. Stirring frequently.
Once slightly golden brown in color, add the fried pasta to the hot soup. Stir well.
