Alphabet Soup – Healthyish Foods

Growing up my grandma always made us alphabet soup. She would gently fry the pasta in a pan until it was slightly golden brown before adding it to the broth. She always said frying it first added more flavor to the soup, and she wasn’t wrong. You can also boil the pasta separately and add the cooked pasta to the broth, but I highly suggest trying it this way first.

Ingredients Needed Alphabet Soup

Alphabet Shaped Pasta – La Moderna alphabet pasta is the best for this soup. You will need one 7-ounce package for this recipe.

Olive Oil / Butter – You will need both olive oil and butter for this recipe.

Onion – You will need one sweet onion diced small for this recipe.

Garlic – This recipe calls for 2 teaspoons garlic, about 2 cloves.

Bone Broth – For this recipe, I used Smart Chicken’s classic chicken bone broth. It adds so much flavor to this recipe. You will need 4 cups which equates to about two cartons.

Whole Tomatoes – For this recipe, you’ll need 28-ounces of whole peeled tomatoes. Delallo Food’s whole peeled San Marzano tomatoes work best.

Salt / Pepper – Season the soup with salt and black pepper. Option to add a few red pepper flakes if you like it spicy.
