6 Healthyish New Years Resolutions and How to Achieve Them 

With the new year on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to reflect and determine what lifestyle changes you want to make as you head into 2018. And while there is a certain “ebb and flow” to life, it is nice to set some achievable goals that can make a really positive impact on your ph
ysical and mental health.

And while a lot of people think that New Year’s resolutions are useless, they have always helped me to identify aspects of my life / daily routine that could use some improvement. So, if you are looking for effective ways to make your life more “Healthyish” in 2018, then these 6 Healthyish New Year’s Resolutions are just for you (and me)!

  1. Staying Hydrated

Sounds simple, right? But most people including myself do not drink nearly enough water. And while the recommended 8 ounces a day sounds achievable, most of us simply forget to hydrate. Moreover, our bodies will actually retain water in an effort to hold onto hydration. And let’s be honest, none of us want to retain water. 2. Be More Active

Whether you like to walk, run, ski, hike, or swim our bodies crave exercise. And according to Brad Pitt in World War Z, “Movement is life”. OK I know he was talking about surviving a zombie apocalypse, but this notion still applies to our everyday routines. The more we move the more our bodies generate all kinds of good stuff. And according to the Mayo Clinic, “exercise can improve mood, boost energy, and combat health conditions and disease.” So even if you take 10 minutes from your desk to get up and walk around, you will be amazed at how quickly those steps can add up.

3. Be Charitable

When I think about being charitable often times I think about writing a check. However, there are so many ways to be charitable that do not require money. Find a cause or organization that really matters to you and donate some of your time. It’s such an amazing feeling to help others and to give back. Not only will you find this personally fulfilling, you might even tap into some inspiration that you can apply to other areas of your life.

4. Set a BHAG

What exactly is a BHAG? Well it is a Big Hairy Audacious Goal and we all need one in our lives. Setting goals for yourself is a great way to stay motivated in the short term while working towards your long term vision. Personally, my BHAG for 2018 is to grow the Healthyish brand and increase sales to 100k. I plan to measure my success via a variety of metrics including, social media growth, newsletter sign ups, monthly sales etc… but having this overarching BHAG in mind will provide direction and focus.

5. Be Kind to Yourself

I don’t know about you guys but I am extremely critical of myself especially when it comes to business. If things do not work the way I expect them to, I will lose sleep, skip meals, and analyze the living crap out of whatever issue is at hand. And while I know this behavior is unhealthy, I find it really hard to break the cycle. So, this year I am going to make a serious effort to be more kind to myself. 6. Cook at Home

Cooking at home can be really therapeutic. For me, there is something about mindless chopping that helps me to unwind after a long days work. That’s why this year I am making an effort to cook at home at least 3 nights a week. Not only will this be good for my waistline, but hopefully my wallet too! And for those of you who are super busy with kids, dogs, and everything else; I know 3 home cooked meals might be asking a lot. My suggestion would be to try one of the meal delivery companies like, Green Chef or Blue Apron. Having all of the ingredients premeasured and delivered to your door really does save tons of time in the kitchen. Not to mention, you can avoid the grocery store! WIN.

Oh, and don’t forget your Healthyish dessert! I am a strong believer that having an occasional organic, portioned controlled dessert is a great way to reward yourself for the small victories in life. You know, like taking the trash out on time…. So here’s to a Healthyish NEW YEAR! I look forward to working on all of these resolutions and hopefully you will too!
